Optional background: (Contains spoilers for the Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind books by Hayao Miyazaki!)
After the "Seven Days of Fire," a global war that ended all forms of industrial civilization when it was at its climax, civilization was reformed somewhat into the kingdom of Eftal which retained many of the technological wonders from before the event. Close to 700 years after the Seven Days of Fire, disagreements over the right to the throne and attempts to destroy the spreading toxic jungle that had appeared just after the apocalypse resulted in the kingdom's near-complete destruction.
The insects which reside in the jungle were enraged by the constant attacks on it, and a surge of insects-- including the king insects of the jungle, the Ohmu-- overtook the capital city of Eftal and nearby lands, becoming seedbeds for the fungus of the jungle. Those that survived this tidal wave of forest and insect (called Daikaisho) either became a tribe of mercenaries or entered the forest which they call their home, surviving off of a symbiotic relationship with the plants and insects that live there.
Based on Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.

Nausicaa was my favorite Ghibli movie, so cool to see a pico Ohmu! Gorgeous artwork!
I must admit I didn't get far (and will revisit later) but I thought it was super neat that you incorporated the Ohmus becoming enraged when you hit the bugs! The first time the horde thing happened I was like ohhh shoot I should have known, panicked, then died shortly after to a bug hahaha.
I was struggling a bit with the platforming bc I couldn't really tell where the ledge ended (like the leafy part continues but you can still jump up/fall through that part -- there was a jump on the second level that took me forever haha but with time I'm sure I'll get more used to it! I got the O2 upgrade and then got stuck again hahaha. Like you can't reach the yellow up arrow? But then in the bottom floor you can't crouch and idk where to go. Still, really cool seeing your growth in your pico games!! Keep it up!!
aw thanks!! I appreciate you checking this one out! Lmk if you need hints anywhere lol, this one is pretty vague. The tile readability is definitely an issue in this one too, yeah. If you liked the movie, I'd highly recommend the manga that it's based on! It's one of Miyazaki's lesser known projects I think, but I'd say the story's themes are a bit different
demn, I only got 93% :-(
game is wrong too:
I didnt kill the insect, the enraged ... did.
good game, only issue I had was that I had somehow managed to miss the entrance to the underground way too many times which made me stuck after getting the first O2 upgrade
Hiya, glad you liked it! I do realize that the giant Ohmu insect technically killed the enraged insect, but ultimately it's because of the player if they choose that method of beating it. And there is, in fact, an alternate better ending if you wanna try and get a higher score.
Honestly I didnt even intentionally choose that method. it's just that the boss spawned many minions which I killed and this unfortunately killed the meter all the way.
wasnt really planned but it worked! :-D
not sure if i could have beaten it without though :-)
weird game, I dont really get how to advance, like where to have stuff getting hit :-/
if it helps, it fills the yellow bar a bit when you kill insects, and something happens if it's full
I know that part, I did that at the start area.
but after getting a floor higher, triggering it doesnt seem to do anything, like nothing getting destroyed anymore.
it's hard to know which places or such are even destroyable in that way...
It's the tile that looks like this:
Sorry that it didn't stand out very well, I tried to pick a pattern that was somewhat unique so the player could tell what it is.
I hope this helps!
oh okay, guess ill try my luck again :-)
Nice game! Don't really have any critical feedback, I just liked it. Few things weren't obvious from the beginning, but I figured it out after not too long. So all in all, really nice game!
Oh, perhaps one thing of feedback. The music, although it fits the atmosphere, is waaay too repetitive, it gets a bit annoying.
I agree, to be honest, about the music. I'll probably go in and swap it out for something a bit better. Thanks for the feedback!
really nice vibes here :)
too me back to the c64 days.
intriguing, ill try to play more
I'm glad you enjoy it! :)
